Ischia. A speedboat of about 9 meters, sailing off the island, sent out an SOS signaling a waterway.

The naval units, which arrived on site within minutes, took care of the transfer of passengers and secured the vessel.

Rescue operations have concentrated in the stretch of sea in front of Lacco Ameno. A team of divers is currently engaged in inspecting the hull to identify the cause of the flooding and evaluate possible solutions.

On board the motorboat there was a family of five (three adults and two children). After the alarm, the Port Authority alerted the naval units GC B 154 and MV CP 829 which were sent to the scene.

The weather conditions made the rescue operation even more complex, but it took place in record time.

Rescuers arriving at the scene of the accident found the motorboat in obvious difficulty, with water already flooding the cabin.

Thanks to the professionalism and rapid intervention of the crews, the five castaways were rescued and transferred to the patrol boat, visibly tired but unharmed.

In the meantime, a team of divers has been lowered into the water to inspect the hull and locate the source of the flooding. Initial hypotheses suggest a possible leak in the hull, but only the surveys of the divers will be able to confirm this.

Meanwhile, the speedboat It was secured and towed to the nearest port, where further checks will be carried out.

The testimonials

“We were sailing calmly when suddenly we heard a loud noise and the vessel began to take on water. We tried to activate the bilge pump but it wasn’t enough. We immediately raised the alarm and shortly after, help arrived. We have no words to thank the Coast Guard.”

Call for caution

Today's episode is a warning to all boaters: it is essential to always check the condition of the vessel before going out to sea and to have all the necessary safety equipment. In case of emergency, it is important to remain calm and call for help immediately."
