Carabinieri from the Varcaturo station and the Giugliano mobile radio unit arrested Francesco D'Alterio, a 47-year-old originally from Naples, for vehicular homicide. He was driving the Smart car without a license when it overturned on the Via Domitiana.
There were four people in the FortTwo: the 47-year-old man and his partner, along with their two daughters, a 16-year-old and an 8-year-old named Michelle Volpe, the youngest of whom died in the accident. Both girls were from a previous relationship of the woman.
The Carabinieri investigation revealed that the car was uninsured. Even more serious, D'Alterio had been released from prison only the previous day after a stint for theft.
D'Alterio returned to prison after only 24 hours of freedom on charges of vehicular homicide.
