Naples. The silence, the reticence, the lack of cooperation in the investigation despite having lost her daughter of only 8 years old have pushed the investigators to report Anna Boscaglia, 37 years old, at liberty for road homicide.
The woman is the mother of little Michelle Volpe, the eight-year-old girl who died at dawn on Sunday on the outskirts of Giugliano when her Smart Two, driven by the woman's current partner, 47-year-old Francesco D'Alterio, who was arrested for road homicide, overturned.
The woman was reported because, as a mother, she failed in her duty to supervise the little girl, exposing her to real danger, given that she had decided to hold her in her arms without a seat belt in a car approved for only two passengers.
The investigations, conducted by the Carabinieri, are trying to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the incident. The investigators are evaluating various hypotheses, including speeding, road conditions and a possible malfunction of the vehicle.
Initial checks revealed that all the tyres were worn, while – as reported by Il Mattino – checks are being carried out on the braking system and the engine.

In short, we want to understand what could have caused the car to overturn: certainly at the base there is the high speed and therefore the low stability of the overloaded car. But a lack of attention while driving is not excluded.
D'Alterio and his partner's cell phones were also seized to determine whether they were in use at the time of the accident.
The driver of the car, the mother's partner, tested negative for alcohol but toxicology tests are still ongoing. The man, who was driving without a license and without insurance, had been released from prison the day before.
The victim's mother, despite the serious injuries to her face, is not cooperating with investigators at all. Her silence is further complicating the investigation.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Volpe, the 16-year-old sister of little victim Michelle, has been discharged from the hospital after treatment for the fractures she sustained in the accident with a prognosis of recovery in 35 days.
