The prefect of Naples, Michele of Bari, yesterday adopted a circular, addressed to the police forces and the commanders of the local police forces of the metropolitan area, with which it drew attention to eco-vandals.
In particular, "on the punctual observance of the provisions relating to the obligation regarding the destruction, dispersion, deterioration, defacement, soiling and illicit use of cultural or landscape assets, innovative provisions on pecuniary sanctions, in addition to criminal sanctions".
A note emphasizes that "the Prefecture is paying great attention to the issue, also in light of the fact that current legislation gives the prefect of the place where the violation was committed the authority to receive the information report on the matter and to impose an administrative fine ranging from a minimum of 10 euros to a maximum of 60 euros."
The prefectural circular, the note states, "follows previous communications, aimed at establishing specific control services to ensure strict compliance and more consistent application of the sanctions provisions, as well as providing procedural guidance on how the inspection bodies prepare the information report."
The Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, emphasized "the need to adhere to the aforementioned procedural clarifications, including to local police commanders, renewing his call to all relevant police forces to adopt the most effective measures to ensure the strengthening of security measures at archaeological and cultural sites and areas most exposed to the crimes that the law is intended to prevent and combat, in order to preserve our extraordinary artistic, archaeological, and cultural heritage, ensuring its accessibility to citizens and tourists."
