On August 31, on the first anniversary of Giovanbattista Cutolo's death, his mother Daniela invites everyone to participate in a gathering in Piazza Municipio, Naples, to remember the young musician.
The event, which will begin at 11:30 a.m., will be a moment of reflection and celebration of GiòGiò's life, whose legacy lives on through the numerous initiatives launched in his memory.
In an open letter, Daniela shares her deep sorrow for the loss of her son and her pride in the courageous man he was. Quoting Franco Battiato, GiòGiò's mother emphasizes how her son will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
One year ago, on August 31, 2023, Naples woke up in shock at the tragic news: Giovanbattista Cutolo, a promising musician of just 24 years old, was killed in Piazza Municipio after a trivial argument. An absurd act that shattered a dream and plunged an entire community into despair.
Today, twelve months later, the city comes together to remember GiòGiò, as his friends affectionately called him. At 11:30 on Saturday, August 31, in Piazza Municipio, a moving gathering organized by Giovanbattista's mother, Daniela Di Maggio, will be held. A moment of recollection and reflection, but also a celebration of the life of a young man who, despite his short existence, managed to touch the hearts of many.
"Dear Gio, my love, how are you?"
"12 seconds" is how Daniela titled the open letter in which she retraces the last year, an odyssey of pain and anger, but also of pride in her son. "Dear Gio, my love, how are you?", the woman wonders, imagining her son in a place where time doesn't flow.
