A moving memorial ceremony was held this morning in Piazza Municipio for Giovanbattista Cutolo, the young musician tragically killed a year ago by a peer. The ceremony was attended by Giovanbattista's parents, Daniela Di Maggio and Franco Cutolo, accompanied by his sister Ludovica, and numerous civil and military authorities.

Those in attendance included the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, Deputy Mayor of Naples, Laura Lieto, Councilor for Legality, Antonio De Iesu, and the President of the Campania Regional Council, Gennaro Oliviero. They were joined by Members of Parliament (MPs) Francesco Emilio Borrelli and Dario Carotenuto, as well as several mayors and representatives of municipalities in the metropolitan area. Law enforcement officials were also present, including Naples Police Chief Maurizio Agricola, Provincial Commander of the Guardia di Finanza, Paolo Borrelli, and Colonel Andrea Leo, representing the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri.

During his speech, the Prefect of Bari expressed words full of emotion and reflection: A wind of pain, suffering, and anger blows stronger across our community in memory of Giovanbattista, or as everyone affectionately called him, Giogiò, one year after his passing. The tragic event that overwhelmed the family and shook the community was swiftly addressed by the justice system, but the responsibility that calls for a change of heart, especially among young people, falls on each of us.

The prefect then made a strong and clear appeal, underlining the importance of not relegating tragedies like Giogiò's to mere judicial news stories: "It's time for a powerful shift, requiring singular attention to these senseless deaths, so that we can strengthen social cohesion. We must transform grief into an opportunity to pursue new goals and build a stronger, more united community."

The ceremony culminated with the laying of a wreath at the site of the tragedy, a symbolic gesture that aims to keep alive the memory of Giogiò and ensure that his talent and passion for music become a shared heritage for the community. "From this place – concluded the prefect – We must start again so that Giovanbattista's aspirations and work can continue to live on, becoming an example and an inspiration for all young people."
