Naples. Last afternoon, the agents of the Vicaria-Mercato Police Station, during a territorial control service, while passing through Piazza Garibaldi, were approached by some passers-by who reported a man who was fiddling with a bike tied to a pole in via Silvio Spaventa.
The police officers, who intervened promptly, noticed a man who, at that moment, was getting on his bike and who, at the sight of them, accelerated his escape in the direction of Piazza Garibaldi to avoid the check.
However, he was immediately caught and, after a struggle during which the man attempted to strike the officers with a metal object, was subdued. He was found in possession of a screwdriver with which he had pried open the bike lock.
For these reasons, the suspect, identified as a 32-year-old Moroccan with a criminal record, was arrested for aggravated theft, resisting a public official, and unauthorized possession of altered keys or lock picks.
Finally, the bike was returned to its rightful owner.
