The program for August 15th and 16th of the fourth edition of "Restate a Napoli ," the summer festival that transforms Piazza del Plebiscito into a vast open-air theater, featuring free music, theater, and dance performances, includes a concert by Maestro Nicola Piovani and, as the closing event, the Ebbanesis phenomenon.
The Neapolitan Ferragosto will be dedicated to great music and the protagonist is the Italian pianist, composer and conductor Nicola Piovani. Author of soundtracks, he has worked with some of the greatest directors of Italian cinema, winning the Oscar in 1999 for the music of the film “La vita è bella” by Roberto Benigni. During his career, other prestigious awards have been received: four David di Donatello, four Nastri d'argento, two Ciak d'oro, the Globo d'oro and the Premio Elsa Morante.
The Maestro will perform in the splendid setting of Piazza del Plebiscito in a quartet format accompanied by Marina Cesari on saxophone, Marco Loddo on double bass and Vittorino Naso on vibraphone and percussion. The concert is entitled “Note a margine”, a musical story presented for the first time during the Cannes Film Festival with the title “Lecon concert”. The show tells the audience about the composer’s journey and poetic research during his work with directors such as Fellini, the Taviani brothers, Benigni, Bigas Luna, suggesting imaginary stations of a musical journey in freedom. In this theatrical story, music arrives where words cannot and do not know how to arrive, because, as Piovani underlined, “I do not remember a single moment in my life in which there was no music”.
The concert will be preceded by the show of the students of the artistic community CIOE' who will bring to the stage “Al massimo su Marte”. At the opening (at 19:30) there will be Raféle singer-songwriter from Aversa who proposes a sound mix with influences ranging from R&B/Soul to popular music.
The closing of the 2024 edition of Restate a Napoli is entrusted to the duo Ebbanesis who bring to Plebiscito the Neapolitan tradition and their great verve in revisiting popular and international songs. With their original elaboration of great covers, where the use of the Neapolitan language is predominant, Ebbanesis have created a trend. For their recording debut they chose as their first single a profound song, “Ho amato tutto”, by Tosca which has a strong Neapolitan component both in the sound and in the lyrics. They thus decided to translate it into Neapolitan and adapt it for voice and guitar, as they usually do, underlining, despite the lightness of the sound, the intensity of the deep and unconditional love that the song expresses. Viviana Cangiano and Serena Pisa are two extraordinary singers who have conquered the scene with successes and popularity on the web.
The concert will be preceded by the performance of the students of the CIOE' artistic community who will bring "devoto privilegio" to the stage. The opening act (at 19:30 pm) will be Gatos do Mar. A trio born from the encounter between the voice of Annalisa Madonna and the harp of Gianluca Rovinello with the percussionist Pasquale Benincasa.
Under the artistic direction of Lello Arena, this edition of Restate a Napoli promises to consolidate the success of past editions. The event is funded by the Municipality of Naples and the Metropolitan City and is desired by Mayor Manfredi for the macro project Napoli Città della Musica. The purpose of the event is to offer tourists and citizens who flock to the city in August live shows with artists of different genres from the national scene with a strong appeal to those from Naples, to enhance young people by giving them a prestigious stage and a concrete moment to test themselves and demonstrate their artistic talents.
