"Green light from the Via Pnrr-Pniec commission of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security for 9 billion in works on the High Speed railway Salerno-Reggio Calabria.
Yesterday, the commission chaired by Germana Panzironi unanimously approved RFI's involvement in two sections of the project. The project involves a total of 100 kilometers of work spanning three regions (Campania, Basilicata, and Calabria).
As with other infrastructure projects, the commission issued its opinion within the tight legal deadline, according to the statement released yesterday. The Ministry of Infrastructure welcomed the work's release, expressing "great satisfaction" with the commission's approval, according to Il Sole 24 Ore.
The new Salerno-Reggio Calabria high-speed line is considered a strategic asset for passenger and freight transport along the country's south-north axis, and its completion will significantly reduce travel times between Rome and Reggio Calabria.
The new connection, according to the group led by Stefano Donnarumma, will guarantee access to the high-speed rail system to several areas of high territorial value such as Cilento and Vallo di Diano, the Ionian coast, the upper and lower Cosenza area, the port area of Gioia Tauro, and the Reggio Calabria area. (...) It will significantly contribute to the strengthening of the freight route between Gioia Tauro, Paola, and Bari along the Adriatic corridor," the newspaper continues.
