Following the landslide that struck the San Felice a Cancello area yesterday, "given the state of emergency in our area, we have submitted a request for a state of natural disaster to the relevant authorities."
The mayor of the municipality in the province of Caserta, Emilio Nuzzo, reports the news. In the document signed by Nuzzo for the request of the state of natural disaster, addressed to the prefecture of Caserta, to the president of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca and to the regional department of Civil Protection.
It states that yesterday "the territory of the Municipality of San Felice a Cancello was affected by meteorological events of exceptional intensity, which caused a serious situation of danger for the safety of people" and "the evacuation of some people from their homes and currently two people are missing".
The document also recalls that the atmospheric events have "caused flooding, landslides with consequent damage to road infrastructure, the network of essential services, public and private structures and production activities" and that "a precise quantification of the damage is currently being carried out".
The mayor therefore believes it is necessary to "promptly implement all extraordinary initiatives aimed at overcoming the serious situation" also taking into account that the emergency "cannot be faced with the ordinary means and powers available to the Municipality of San Felice a Cancello".
The request is that "a state of natural disaster be declared in the municipal territory with the activation of regional and state resources to be allocated, aimed at restoring, in safe conditions, the damaged public or public interest structures and infrastructures and at removing the danger or preventing the risk" and that "any contributions be granted in favor of citizens and businesses damaged by the calamitous events".
