Animals kept in deplorable conditions inside a garage: this is what emerged from an intervention by the Carabinieri of the Marcianise forestry unit and the Nipaaf of Caserta, assisted by veterinarians from the Aversa ASL , in Sant'Arpino.
During a search of an underground garage attached to a private home, the military found the absence of an adequate ventilation system and discovered numerous animals kept inside.
Among them were 14 small parrots of the Monk Parrot species and 21 adult specimens of the same species, an animal species at risk of extinction. The person present during the inspection was unable to provide any tax invoice, Cites certificate, or other documentation attesting to the legitimate origin or possession of these birds.
Other parrots were also found, including a Roseate Cockatoo, an Alexandrine Parakeet, an African Grey Parakeet, an Amazon Parrot, a Ring-necked Parakeet, a White-moth Parakeet and two Monk Parakeets, for which the relevant certificates justifying their lawful possession were presented.
In addition to the birds, two pythons were found, for which the necessary certifications were provided, and four puppies, two Chihuahuas and two poodles, which were locked in makeshift spaces, without water and food, together with several other species of birds.
All the animals were crammed into the garage, along with various materials, in conditions not authorized by the ASL and incompatible with their nature, causing serious suffering. Consequently, the military seized all the animals and reported the owner of the garage at large.
Furthermore, regarding the Cites specimens held without the required documentation, the man was also reported for the crime of illicit possession of Cites specimens.
Finally, from the check of the regional database of the Campania and national canine registry, it emerged that none of the four dogs were registered to the person present during the inspection. For this violation, an administrative fine of 800 euros was imposed.
