People go there to admire the breathtaking view and experience a splendid Neapolitan evening, but too often the panoramic terrace of Sant'Antonio a Posillipo turns into a real open-air landfill.
The view of Vesuvius and the Gulf is obscured by the presence of disposable cups, plastic bottles, papers and cans scattered on the ground.
“Unfortunately, defiling this place has become a bad habit, not only among Neapolitans, but also among many tourists who come here ,” says a citizen who documented the situation on the evening of August 15th and reported the problem to the Green-Left Alliance MP, Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
“Despite the presence of numerous bins, everything is thrown on the ground.”
“When in Rome, do as the Romans do… adapting the proverb to an increasingly worrying scenario,” commented Borrelli along with the municipal councilors of Europa Verde, Gianni Caselli and Lorenzo Pascucci.
“This is precisely the problem: guests tend to adopt the habits and customs of the 'host'. If the latter does not set a good example, a chain of bad habits and incivility is triggered.
For this reason, as we have been saying for years, it is necessary to replace these bad habits with respect, good manners and civic sense. Tourists must be educated by placing them in front of a clean and tidy city, which can only be achieved if the uncivilized are punished as they should be.”
