The Carabinieri of Montella arrested three men caught illegally transporting ferrous material and electrical waste.
The operation, which led to the seizure of a truck and approximately 500 kg of waste, is part of a broader plan to combat illegal waste trafficking. Those arrested, who did not have the necessary authorizations, will be charged with illegal waste management.
Three men, originally from the Neapolitan hinterland, were arrested red-handed while transporting on board a truck approximately 500 kg of ferrous scrap and various household appliances, without any authorization.
The investigation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Avellino, started from some anonymous reports that indicated the presence of a suspicious activity in the area. The military, stationed along the provincial roads, intercepted the heavy vehicle and, after having subjected it to a thorough check, discovered the illicit load.
The truck, a large truck with foreign license plates, was seized along with its cargo. The arrested, already known to the police for specific precedents, were taken to the Avellino prison.
A millionaire business
Illicit waste trafficking is an increasingly widespread and profitable phenomenon, which puts public health and the environment at risk. The suspects, taking advantage of the lack of controls and the difficulties in tracing the waste, they managed to illegally dispose of the collected materials, avoiding having to pay the disposal costs required by law.
The importance of reporting
Law enforcement agencies invite citizens to report any suspicious activity that may be linked to illegal waste trafficking. Every report, even anonymous, can be essential to dismantling these criminal organizations and protecting our territory.
