It happened in Baiso, in the province of Reggio Emilia. The alleged scammers, a 22-year-old and a 21-year-old, both residents of Naples, were reported to the Reggio Emilia Prosecutor's Office for conspiracy to commit fraud.
The incident dates back to April, when the elderly woman was contacted by telephone by a man who, introducing himself as a Carabinieri marshal, asked her a series of questions aimed at obtaining information useful for the scam.
The man then called the elderly woman again, informing her that her granddaughter had been arrested for running over a pregnant woman, causing the death of the child.
