Two young men aged 21 and 20, both from the province of Napoli, were arrested by the Carabinieri in Rionero in Vulture, in the province of Potenza, for attempted fraud against an elderly local woman.
The scam perpetrated against the woman was a classic example of a phone call in which a man, pretending to be a police officer, described a car accident that had occurred to the elderly woman's son, and subsequently demanded money.
The prompt action of the woman's husband, who was present at the house at the time of the scam, and the call to the Carabinieri led to the intervention of two patrol cars, who surrounded the house and arrested two young men.
The investigating judge of the Court of Potenza has ordered house arrest for both of the perpetrators.
