Work continues unabated to secure the Vela Celeste in Scampia, the site of the tragic collapse of a balcony that killed three people last month.
The last access walkway from the outside has been knocked down, making the building inaccessible except through the construction site area, which is guarded and closed.
The internal walkways, however, will remain in place to allow companies responsible for transporting furniture and heavy objects that displaced families were unable to collect in recent weeks when they had access to their homes.
Meanwhile, families remain without answers.
While the bulldozers work, however, the families affected by the disaster remain in precarious circumstances. "They have been abandoned to their fate ," denounces Angelo Pisani , lawyer representing some of the victims and survivors. According to Pisani, a month after the collapse , no concrete measures have yet been implemented to help the families find new homes and financial support.
“It's paradoxical that there has been no support for the victims and injured ,” thunders the lawyer. “Nothing can give them back what they've lost, but it's unacceptable that they're left to cope with this tragedy alone.
The victims are still without safe and habitable housing, without any adequate economic support. Not only that. The relatives of those who lost their lives in the collapse and especially the injured have not yet received financial compensation to be able to start over, to be able to receive dignified treatment.
They were abandoned by the municipality of Naples, which previously also asked for the rent in those sails. Everyone, from the evacuees to the families of the victims, have the right to compensation for damages”.
