Naples. Another case of illegal occupation and threats against elderly people in public housing in Naples.
This time it happened in Ponticelli, where an 80-year-old woman with a heart condition was evicted from her home by squatters, who threatened her by saying: “We’ll smash your heads in if you don’t leave.”
The woman, who had gone to Emilia Romagna for medical treatment, found herself at the centre of a case linked to alleged illicit trafficking in the sale and purchase of public housing.
MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli intervened with a night raid, declaring that the woman has the right to live in the house to which she is the legitimate assignee, and that the squatters will have to leave.
According to Borrelli, these occupations are not a solution to the housing emergency, but rather a system for illicit earnings.
Once again Naples is the scene of an illegal occupation. Following a well-known script, the squatters waited for the legitimate assignees to leave before forcibly entering the Ponticelli public housing.
The victim, Mrs. Angela, the legitimate assignee together with her deceased husband, was in Reggio Emilia as a guest of her daughter to follow cardiac treatments. During her absence, the squatters took advantage of the situation.
During her time in Emilia, Mrs. Angela's daughter kept in touch with some neighbors to receive updates on the situation of the house.
A neighbor, Mrs. Anna, had insisted on buying the apartment, and when her daughter refused, contact was cut off. Other neighbors also stopped providing information, leaving mother and daughter worried.
Upon their return to Naples, they discovered that the house had been completely renovated, with new names on the mailbox and intercom, old furniture thrown away and locks changed. About ten people showed up on the spot and threatened to leave: “If you don’t leave, we’ll split your heads open.”
The two women filed a complaint with the Carabinieri and asked for the intervention of the deputy Borrelli and the journalist Pino Grazioli. In a night raid, they provided support to the victims and faced the illegal occupants, urging them to leave the apartment.
It is suspected that behind this occupation there is a trafficking of council houses, sold illegally. Some terrified neighbors have said they have seen houses assigned to legitimate owners sold for 15-20 thousand euros and fear for their safety.
“Mrs. Angela, over eighty and sick, has the right to have her home back, and the occupants must leave. She wants to go back to live and die where she has always lived, and that is her sacrosanct right.
We have already requested the intervention of the police, who accompanied us during the night. Once the matter is resolved, it will be necessary to thoroughly investigate this round of illegal sales and hit those responsible hard.
These illegal occupations are not a solution to the housing emergency, but an illegal market that strengthens the clans that control certain areas”, declared MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
