Naples. What was once a gesture of solidarity, donating old clothes to those in need, has turned into a real illegal business.
In recent weeks, gangs of thieves have targeted used clothing collection bins, systematically emptying them and then scattering the Abit on the streets those discarded and deemed unfit for sale
Behind these night raids lies an illegal traffic that moves huge sums of money. The collected clothes are then sold on the black market, taking away precious resources from those who legally deal with textile recycling and allocating the proceeds to who knows what shady business.
The alarm of the institutions
Local institutions are alarmed. Citizens, tired of helplessly watching this outrage, are loudly calling for more controls and more severe penalties for those responsible.
A problem that goes beyond urban decorum
This phenomenon, in addition to creating a serious urban blemish, has negative environmental repercussions. Tons of clothing end up in landfills, increasing pollution and the waste of precious resources.
