The interventions will increase the decorum by appreciably enhancing the structure: the complex will remain closed from 9 to 20 September 2024 for works

The Vettica cemetery, located at the gates of Amalfi and second in size after the monumental cemetery that dominates the city, is about to become even more dignified thanks to the new redevelopment interventions desired by the Municipal Administration led by Mayor Daniele Milano.

The complex will be closed to the public from 9 to 20 September 2024, to allow for the completion of the works: it will reopen on Saturday 21 September.

"Restoring to the Amalfitans the full enjoyment of the cemetery and, with it, the practice of the cult of memory within an increasingly dignified space, was an absolute priority - says Mayor Daniele Milano - In recent years we have made a strong commitment to the redevelopment of the Cemeteries and the further interventions increase the decorum, appreciably enhancing the structure".

The intervention, with a total cost of approximately 80.000 euros – from municipal budget funds – includes the re-plastering of the external niches, the painting of all the railings and the under-floor preparation of the electrical system uprights. In addition to this, there is also the complete re-doing of the public bathroom, which is part of the redevelopment project of the cemetery complex.

"Making improvements to all the city's cemeteries, especially the peripheral ones, which are constantly monitored by this Administration, has always been a priority for us," says the deputy mayor with responsibility for Cemeteries, Matteo Bottone. "In recent years, we have carried out a series of maintenance interventions not only to resolve the most urgent problems, but also works necessary to complete the redevelopment of the areas of both the monumental cemetery and those of the Amalfi hamlets, and we will continue in an important way to make these places worthy of hosting the remains of our dear deceased in the best possible way."

At the Vettica-Lone cemetery, specifically, all the plaster will be removed, with a chipping operation, and the asphalt sheath covering each individual slat will be replaced, which is now completely deteriorated and in some sections non-existent.

The complete renovation of the bathroom used by the public will also be planned, with a total overhaul of the water system, the installation of floors and coverings and the replacement of sanitary parts and all the iron railings inside the cemetery will be painted, after cleaning and sanding. Finally, a new upright will be built in order to prepare the entire electrical system under the surface.
