On Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 6:00 PM, at the Former Military Hospital (Vico Trinità delle Monache, 1 – Naples), Fabio De Santis opens his solo painting exhibition "Rebel Angels." The project, consisting of 23 works, explores universal themes such as rebellion, downfall, redemption, and freedom, offering a reflection on the relationship between the body, desire, society, and the divine. The exhibition, open until October 18, 2024, is promoted by MIC, the Campania Region, the Municipality of Naples, the Institut Français, PDP gallery, Urban Value by Ninetynine, Le Nuvole, and Casa del Contemporaneo.
A Deep Thematic Exploration
Born in Genoa in 1980, Fabio De Santis has developed his career between Italy and France, exhibiting in various cities internationally. “Angeli Ribelli” focuses on themes such as the fall and rebellion, using the contrast between black and white and the presence/absence of pigment to create provocative and powerful visions. In each work you can feel the influence of the Neapolitan Baroque, which transports the viewer into a universe of dreams and nightmares, challenging the boundaries of traditional figurative. The expressive power of the Neapolitan Baroque is a constant that is reflected in the works, transforming dreams into visions and nightmares into powerful artistic manifestations.
The Visual Narration of the Works
The 23 works on display in Naples constitute a narrative that develops through questions, doubts, provocations and references to the theme of rebellion, of the fall and of the possibility of redemption and freedom. These concepts are investigated on a social and physical level, in desire and in the daily relationship with the divine. The conclusions of this artistic journey remain open, leaving room for multiple interpretations.
