The Festival of the Archaeological Park of the Phlegraean Fields, known as ANTRO, returns in 2024 with a new edition under the inspiring theme “Mens agitat molem” (“The mind moves matter”). The festival, financially supported by the Archaeological Park and the Ministry of Culture, will be held in the evocative setting of the Castello di Baia from 6 to 15 September. The second weekend of the festival, in particular, promises a rich program of shows.
Corto Maltese and Irene of Boston
The first event of the weekend, Friday 6 September at 21.00:XNUMX pm, will see “Corto Maltese and Irene di Boston” on stage. This event, curated by Lib Associazione sociale, is an innovative project that combines reading, music and live drawing. Marco Steiner, who interprets the readings, will be joined by Stefano Meli on the Stratocaster electric guitar and Giovanni Robustelli who will perform a live painting performance. The narration follows Corto Maltese, the famous sailor created by Hugo Pratt, in a poetic and surreal adventure with Irene, a female spirit tied to a sailing ship.
The Last Voyage of Pliny the Elder
On Saturday, September 7th, at 21.00:XNUMX PM, audiences can enjoy "Gaius Plinius Secundus. The Last Voyage of Pliny the Elder," produced by Teatro di Tato Russo. This show offers a moving portrayal of Pliny's final moments, interpreted by Rino Di Martino, through his visions and reflections. The choreography is by Aurelio Gatti, with dancers Elisa Carta Carosi and Lucia Cinquegrana. The production is directed by Diego Sommaripa, with music by Marco Schiavoni.
Natural Rerum
Sunday 8 September, again at 21.00:XNUMX pm, will be the turn of “De rerum natura” (from Lucretius), a work that combines dance and theatre. Curated by MDA Danza, the work explores the themes of nature, the origin of things, natural phenomena and free will. This performance offers a profound reflection on the dynamics of the universe and the vital energy that animates it.
Upcoming events
The festival will continue the following week with a series of equally fascinating events. From “Commedia&Arte” with Markus Kupferblum, to conferences and shows that range from history, oracles and divinations to classical theatrical performances such as “Menecmi” by Plautus. Each event will be held in the Piazza d'Armi of the Castello di Baia, with an entrance ticket to the Castle costing 5 euros. The ANTRO 2024 Festival therefore confirms itself as an unmissable event for lovers of culture, art and history, offering a rich calendar of events to celebrate the mind and matter in a unique historical setting.
