The regional secretary of Sappe, Tiziana Guacci, reported new episodes of violence and critical situations in the prisons of Ariano Irpino and Avellino.
In Ariano Irpino, a foreign prisoner, who had already attacked his cellmates last Friday, once again threw boiling oil on other prisoners, who reacted by destroying the furniture and devastating the cell.
In the afternoon, the same prison was the scene of another attack: an inmate who was due to be transferred to solitary confinement punched an officer in the face, forcing him to seek medical attention.

The situation returned to normal only late in the evening. In Avellino, an assistant chief of the Penitentiary Police was attacked by an inmate after preventing the delivery of unauthorized goods contained in a postal package sent by family members.
Donato Capece, national secretary of Sappe, commented: "For years we have been calling for the expulsion of foreign prisoners, who represent a third of the prison population, and the transfer to protected facilities of prisoners with mental health problems, currently housed in the ordinary prison system.
Greater investment in technology and resources is also needed for the women and men of the Penitentiary Police, who, despite stressful and difficult working conditions, continue to ensure order and safety.
