Late yesterday evening, a serious fire affected a truck that was traveling along the A16 Naples-Canosa highway, at the Lacedonia toll booth, in the province of Avellino. The heavy vehicle, loaded with boxes full of tomatoes, suddenly caught fire due to a mechanical failure in the engine compartment, which quickly ignited the flames.
In a few minutes the fire engulfed and destroyed the truck's cabin, making it completely unrecoverable. Fortunately, the driver of the truck, headed towards Scafati, had the presence of mind to stop the vehicle and get to safety before the fire spread further.
Despite the serious risk, the man managed to avoid physical consequences thanks to his timely intervention. The Fire Department promptly arrived on site and began extinguishing operations. Thanks to their promptness, they managed to contain the fire and prevent the flames from reaching the load of tomatoes. The intervention required considerable effort to put out the fire and restore safety conditions along the road.
The accident temporarily slowed traffic along that stretch of highway, but thanks to the effective coordination of the Fire Department and the police forces present, traffic was restored without further disruption. Fortunately, the cargo was largely preserved, limiting the economic damage related to the accident.
