On Thursday, September 12, "Lighting Flowers Bagnoli" will be inaugurated. This evocative digital graffiti installation by artist Franz Cerami will illuminate the abandoned industrial buildings of the former Italsider area in Bagnoli. The work, which aims to transform industrial archaeology into a visual attraction, was presented this morning in the Porta del Parco Auditorium, during an event promoted by the Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, in his role as Special Commissioner for Bagnoli, and organized in collaboration with Invitalia.
Artist Franz Cerami explained that “Lighting Flowers Bagnoli” is part of an international project dedicated to the urban regeneration of suburbs in various parts of the world. In the days before the installation, Cerami met with the citizens of Bagnoli to listen to their expectations: “Everyone was happy that there was finally a strong signal of commitment to the rebirth of Bagnoli.”
Mayor Manfredi underlined the importance of the event as a sign of rebirth for the area: “This installation represents a great work of public art, at a time when we are accelerating the remediation and revitalization of the industrial site. The possibility of visiting the exhibition on board a bus will once again bring citizens closer to this area, which has been closed for decades, but which we are now reopening with concrete interventions and a new vision for the future.”
The installation “Lighting Flowers Bagnoli” will remain visible until November 12 and can be explored through a tour with the City Sightseeing of Naples. To participate, you can book on the official website of the initiative, www.lightingflowers.com. This artistic initiative, in addition to enhancing an area that is a symbol of Neapolitan industrial history, represents a tangible sign of the desire to bring to light Bagnoli, both culturally and operationally, rewriting its future through art and public engagement.
