The "Safe Seas and Lakes 2024" operation continues along the Sorrento peninsula coast, aimed at ensuring safety in all professional and tourist activities, both at sea and on the beaches.
This morning, the coast guard personnel of Piano di Sorrento and Castellammare di Stabia, under the leadership of Commander Andrea Pellegrino and the coordination of the Maritime Directorate of Naples, intervened with its own resources to free a body of water illegally occupied by buoys, ropes and other materials in the "Silenzio Cantatore" area of the Municipality of Piano di Sorrento.
The operation was conducted by the fast vessel GC B157 of the Port Authority of Castellammare di Stabia, led by the experienced Petty Officer Marco Orazzo and Petty Officer Simone Di Ruocco, with personnel on board from the local maritime office of Piano di Sorrento under the command of Marshal Luigi Di Benedetto.
During the operation, numerous buoys and approximately 50 metres of ropes were recovered, potentially dangerous for the safety of navigation.
Police operations also identified the owners of pleasure boats that were unauthorizedly mooring in the water, illegally taking up space from the public. These owners were reported to the competent authorities for their illegal occupation.
Thanks to military action, illegal moorings were removed from a particularly valuable maritime area, placed without any legitimate title to occupy the water and seabed.
This area, in fact, falls within Zone B of the Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area, overlooking the Li Galli archipelago. The Port Authority - Coast Guard of Castellammare will continue with further investigations and monitoring of the seabed, also evaluating the use of the underwater component of the unit to remove illegal corpses and other pollutants from these seabeds of extraordinary natural beauty.
