Naples. In a joint operation, officers from the Flying Squad and the San Paolo Police Station busted a dangerous drug dealing ring in Fuorigrotta, pulling off a masterstroke.
Yesterday evening, in via Cinthia, two men aboard a car were stopped and found in possession of over a kilogram of pure cocaine, divided into three blocks. But the surprises did not end there.
Carpet searches
Subsequent house searches brought to light a veritable arsenal: in addition to precision scales, drug packaging material and numerous cell phones, the officers found five cartridges of various calibers and, even more alarmingly, three homemade explosive devices, two of which were remote-controlled.
Two dangerous offenders arrested
The two arrested, a 27-year-old Neapolitan and his 49-year-old accomplice with a criminal record, are believed to be responsible for a thriving drug dealing activity in the neighborhood.
The 49-year-old, in particular, is also accused of illegal possession of weapons and explosives and possession of false documents.
Yesterday's operation represents a severe blow to the clan of Fuorigrotta, an area where a bloody Camorra feud has been going on for over a year. The seizure of such a large quantity of drugs and such a dangerous arsenal demonstrates how the clans are trying to expand their influence.
Investigations are still ongoing to trace the suppliers of the drugs and to ascertain any links with other criminal groups.
