In the last few days the first interventions have begun for the redevelopment of the "hole of the 167", one of the most significant urban degradations of Caserta.

The Marino Administration has obtained over two million euros from the PNRR for this project.

"If it weren't for the context of Caserta, it would be a laudable initiative. The project includes the complete concreting of the area with the construction of an athletics track, changing rooms and steps", explain the Caserta Decide group that has organized a picket for Saturday morning,

This area, Parco degli Aranci, has become an urban forest over time, rich in biodiversity, which however will be destroyed: the felling of all the trees is planned in a neighborhood already lacking in green and public spaces.

Ferdinando Errichiello, of the Caserta Decide coordination, defines it as “an anachronistic idea, contrary to the trends of land protection and urban adaptation to climate change, and above all not appreciated by residents”.

Another critical issue is the management of the space, which will probably be entrusted to private individuals. Errichiello concludes: “Two million euros of public funds for an infrastructure that will be privatized.”

Furthermore, the project on the Municipality website lacks project attachments, violating transparency regulations. Through Councilor Raffaele Giovine, we have requested access to the documents and are waiting to view the funded project.

To oppose this concreting project, there will be a protest on Saturday 14 September from 11:00 am at the widening of Viale degli Aranci.

We are thus resuming our post-summer activities: in the square, with the citizens, for a greener, more participatory and welcoming city.
