An ingenious scam involving over 97 thousand euros was foiled in Rome, to the detriment of a parastatal entity.
A 52 year old man, originally from the province of Caserta and with a criminal record for insurance fraud, he posed as a lawyer and orchestrated an elaborate scam.
The suspect demonstrated remarkable skill in simulating legal proceedings, creating as many as 18 fake seizure notices. With meticulous attention to detail, he forged the letterheads of several Italian courts, including those of Vercelli, Benevento, and Modena, giving the documents the appearance of complete authenticity.
Using certified email (PEC), he sent the false seizure notices directly to the bank where the parastatal entity held its current accounts.

In the email, the man attached the orders apparently signed by magistrates, attesting their compliance personally.
Deceived by the apparent legitimacy of the documentation and the method of sending it via certified email, the bank deemed the false seizure notices authentic and paid the sum of €97.620 directly to the so-called lawyer.
Only after further payment requests, deemed suspicious, did the bank initiate in-depth investigations and uncover the fraud. At that point, the bank reported the matter to the competent authorities, who began their investigation.
The Rome Public Prosecutor's Office, coordinated by Preliminary Investigations Judge Emanuela Attura, has issued a seizure order against the suspect, who will now face charges of forgery and fraud.
