Yesterday morning, a macabre discovery shocked the community of Capua: the tomb of a young Roma man had been desecrated.
Inside the cemetery, in an isolated area, a coffin was opened and looted by unknown persons.
The body, belonging to a 23-year-old who died 30 years ago in a car accident, was found with the zinc lid partially torn off. It is clear that the criminals were looking for gold objects, a practice unfortunately not uncommon in similar cases.
The authorities were immediately alerted and the Carabinieri of the Capua company intervened on site. Mayor Adolfo Villani ordered the closure of the cemetery to allow investigations and restore the hygienic-sanitary conditions of the place.

Despite the desecration, the thieves do not appear to have taken much. Apart from an old radio and a sum of money that has now been devalued, no other valuables were found. However, the moral damage inflicted on the family of the deceased is inestimable.
The Carabinieri are analyzing the images from the cemetery's surveillance cameras in the hope of identifying those responsible. The episode has sparked outrage and indignation in the local community, which is rallying around the young man's family.
