The president of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, commented on the waste fire in Persano calling it “highly suspicious”.

“A few weeks ago I witnessed a shameful attempt at speculation. In Persano, waste was accumulated that had nothing to do with eco-bales. This waste had been taken by Neapolitan entrepreneurs to Tunisia, where it was discovered that it contained polluting substances.

The Tunisian authorities seized everything, almost leading to a diplomatic incident between Italy and Tunisia. At the time, the Foreign Minister was Di Maio, and Campania offered its support to resolve a problem that concerned relations between the two countries.

The ecobales have nothing to do with it. We accumulated that waste in the Persano area, the judiciary seized it and, just as we were about to remove it, a fire broke out.

We have nothing else to add, except that everyone should thank the Campania Region for the help given to Italy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The judiciary will investigate the causes of the fire, but the event appears truly suspicious”.

De Luca made these statements during the inauguration of the new Itsvil headquarters, in via Antonio Amato 26, in Salerno.
