Romanian prisoner Denis Costel Strauneanu, after escaping from the Sessa Aurunca hospital two days ago, attacked a 60-year-old farmer, forcing him on an odyssey in his car to Naples.
The escape, which occurred two days ago, was possible thanks to a clever ploy: by pretending to limp, the 28-year-old managed to get an X-ray, but once at the hospital he took advantage of a moment of distraction to escape through a window.
However, the video surveillance images revealed a very different reality: a man fleeing quickly, far from the simulated limping gait.
Armed with a screwdriver, Strauneanu threatened the farmer, wounding him during a vain resistance. Once in Naples, the prisoner robbed the victim of personal effects and money, before disappearing and changing his clothes to escape the search.
It is not the first time Strauneanu he attempts to escape: in 2021 he had already escaped from a prison in Pescara, but was recaptured.

The episode has raised alarm among law enforcement, which is engaged in a vigorous manhunt. Prison police unions have expressed deep concern, stressing the need for more effective measures to ensure the safety of officers and prevent further escapes.
“These critical events are following one another at a rapid pace”, denounce Giuseppe Moretti and Ciro Auricchio of the Uspp, "and a dangerous sense of impunity has spread among the inmates. It is urgent to transfer the most dangerous inmates out of the region and to guarantee the prison officers the resources necessary to carry out their difficult work."
“We appeal to both political and departmental authorities to secure the work of prison police officers in the Campania Region”, conclude Moretti and Auricchio
