Pompeii. The ancient city buried by Vesuvius once again proves itself to be the most popular destination for Italians passionate about history and archaeology.

On the first Sunday in September, during the "Sunday at the Museum" initiative, the Pompeii excavations attracted a record 18.356 visitors, far exceeding expectations and confirming their status as one of the most visited archaeological sites in the world.

Following on the podium of the most popular locations are the Pantheon in Rome with 14.759 visitors and the Colosseum with 14.576. Southern Italy also stands out, with the Royal Palace of Caserta taking fourth place with 10.584 admissions, surpassing the prestigious Uffizi Galleries.
