Almost a month ago, little Ethan, a newborn of just seven months, was taken away from his mother, Claudia Ciampa, by his father, an American citizen. Since then, the mother has lived in a nightmare, anguished for the fate of her child, who she was still breastfeeding at the time of the kidnapping. A painful story that has deeply shaken the community of Piano di Sorrento, who immediately mobilized to support the family.
After the prayer vigil held last Sunday at the Parish of San Michele, a torchlight procession will be held on Friday 27 September as a sign of solidarity for Ethan and his mother. The initiative, organized by the local community in collaboration with the administrations of the Sorrento peninsula, will start at 20.30:XNUMX pm from the Basilica of San Michele and will end in Piazza Cota. The demonstration will see the participation of all the mayors of the area and represents a way to keep attention high on a case of international child abduction with disturbing contours.
September 27 was chosen to coincide with the display of the statue of San Michelino, during which the protection of the Archangel is traditionally invoked on the children of the community. «On the day when we ask for the protection of our patron saint on the little ones – declared Claudia Ciampa – We organized this torchlight procession to raise awareness about the plight of my little Ethan, who needs all the support and protection possible at this time." Claudia then expressed her gratitude towards the community, the parish priest Don Tonino D'Esposito, and the municipal administrations, who immediately demonstrated closeness. "On Friday evening we will march together, bringing a sign of light and hope so that this tragedy can be resolved as soon as possible", added the mother.
The case quickly captured the attention of the national media. Little Ethan was abducted on August 30 by his mother's ex-partner during a vacation in Puglia and presumably taken to the United States. The father allows his mother only short video calls with the child, but refuses to provide precise information on his location. Mrs. Ciampa, assisted by the lawyer Gian Ettore Gassani, president of the Association of Italian Matrimonial Lawyers (AMI), immediately filed a complaint and activated the legal procedures provided for by the 1980 Hague Convention on International Child Abduction.
The situation remains extremely delicate and requires the intervention of national and international institutions to ensure that Ethan can return to his mother's arms as soon as possible. In the meantime, the family has also launched an appeal on the web, creating a Facebook page entitled "Let's bring Ethan home to his mother and brothers", through which it is possible to follow the developments of the case and show solidarity.
