The archaeological park of Pompei It is not only a priceless treasure chest of antiquity, but the most faithful representation of a city of ancient Rome, a symbol of rebirth and development for the entire Campania area. This was stated by the Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, during the opening of the second day of the G7 Culture, held at the Royal Palace of Naples.
“Pompeii is today a driving force for development for local communities, thanks to its extraordinary tourist appeal and the cultural liveliness it generates”, said Giuli. “The Italian government, together with the European Union, has invested over 100 million euros in the last ten years to ensure the safety of the site, conduct new excavations and improve the services offered to visitors.”
These investments have produced tangible results: the area open to the public has been significantly expanded, with significant archaeological discoveries that have enriched the understanding of daily life in ancient Pompeii. “The number of visitors has grown significantly, from 2,4 million to 4 million per year”, the minister underlined, highlighting how the archaeological site represents a cultural and tourist pillar for the entire region.
The successes achieved in Pompei they inspired the government to look further: “These encouraging results push us to invest further in the valorization of other archaeological sites in Campania, a land rich in history and culture”, added Giuli, announcing future plans to expand and improve accessibility and visitor experience across the region.
