“We talk a lot about this PNRR and we talk about it as if it were just a pile of money, sometimes even as if it were a set of rules and objectives that are difficult to achieve and then you come to occasions like these, to the Bipiani in Ponticelli, and you realize, as in many other places in Europe and in Italy, that with this money you can make projects.
Here the project is of quality residence and environmental quality which is one of the prerequisites for European funding. It is 35 million and as you can see it is 35 million that the Municipal Administration is spending respecting the times.
But above all with a method of involving residents who certainly have an interest in this novelty but must be continually called into question and involved otherwise these things do not work. This method here and in other areas of Naples will be a very positive method”.
This is the comment of approval and praise from the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Paolo Gentiloni who today visited, with the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, some realities at the centre of projects in which European funds have been spent: the Bipiani of Ponticelli, the university centre of the Federico II University in San Giovanni a Teduccio, and the Fondazione Famiglia di Maria.
“It is one of the construction sites that we have opened with the resources of the Pnrr for the redevelopment of the suburbs – explained Manfredi referring to the Bipiani – but in reality work has already been underway for months and in these days work is being done on the foundations of the new buildings.
It is another example of this work that we have done with the communities in synergy of co-design to build a new future in pieces of the city that came from moments of great marginalization, think of Scampia and Taverna del Ferro.
The Bipiani are a great example. I am happy that President Gentiloni is here and can see first-hand how with European resources and common debt we can change people's future. I believe it is the most beautiful thing for those who work in politics, to realize the dream of tants".
“Ponticelli and other Neapolitan cases, such as Scampia – Gentiloni concluded – they are examples in difficult contexts because we all know how difficult it is to work and intervene in the residences here but I see many positives.
Here we work on the hope that I have also heard from some residents who have been here for many decades and I believe it is a hope that makes us all very optimistic."
