Carabiniere Giuseppe Molinaro was sentenced to 14 years and 8 months in prison by the Cassino court for murdering Giovanni Fidaleo, manager of the Nuova Suio hotel in Castelforte, with his service pistol.
Molinaro also attempted to kill Miriam Mignano, a security guard with whom he had a relationship. The crime was committed on March 7, 2023 in Castelforte, where Molinaro, convinced that Mignano had left him for Fidaleo, ambushed and fired seven gunshots.
According to the prosecution, Molinaro, 57, who served in Castelforte, was obsessed with the idea that Mignano, 31, had begun a relationship with Fidaleo, 66. Deputy prosecutor Chiara D'Orefice accused Molinaro of premeditated murder, attempted murder, stalking and theft of Mignano's smartphone, which he took believing she was dead after seriously injuring her.
During the closing speech, the prosecutor asked for a sentence of 17 years and 4 months, with the mitigating circumstance of having a clean criminal record and a reduction of the sentence due to the abbreviated trial.
The defense requested a psychiatric evaluation, since Molinaro had already been treated in the past. However, Judge Massimo Lo Mastro issued the sentence only for the crimes of murder and attempted murder.
