EPP Group visits Vesuvius Park and Royal Vesuvius Observatory

The visit will conclude on Friday morning with a meeting of the EPP Group Academy on Europe and its Neighbourhood, with a particular focus on the challenges in the Mediterranean.

On the occasion of the activities planned in Naples, on 26 September 2024, the delegation of the EPP Group will visit the National Park of The visit will include a stop at the Vesuvius Crater, offering the opportunity to explore and appreciate the natural beauty and geological value of this site, followed by a tour of the Real Osservatorio Vesuviano, the historic headquarters of the INGV.

Here, a panel dedicated to the planning of the protected area, with a particular focus on volcanic risk, will delve into the scientific aspects and volcanic activity of the region.

This visit represents a significant moment in the three days of study that the EPP Group is spending in Naples, a city that confirms itself as a point of reference for cooperation between Europe and the Mediterranean.

During the activities planned for the 26th in the Vesuvius National Park, the MEPs of the EPP Group will be welcomed by the President of the Vesuvius National Park Authority Raffaele De Luca, by the Head of Civil Protection, Fabio Ciciliano and by the Director of INGV – Vesuvius Observatory Mauro di Vito.

The visit to the Vesuvius Park will not only enrich the participants' knowledge of environmental and cultural issues, but will also underline the importance of dialogue and collaboration between Mediterranean countries to address shared challenges.
