Ischia is shocked by another road tragedy. Maurizio Di Massa, a 27-year-old native of the island and a respected employee of a local fruit and vegetable company, died at Cardarelli Hospital in Naples following a violent head-on collision between his van and an EAV bus.

The accident occurred this morning along via Michele Mazzarella. According to initial reports, the young man was walking along the street when, for reasons yet to be clarified, he collided head-on with the public transport.

The impact was so violent that it caused serious injuries to the 27-year-old, who was immediately rescued and transported in red code to the Rizzoli hospital in Ischia.

Because of severity of his condition, Di Massa was transferred by helicopter to the Cardarelli in Naples, where he underwent a delicate surgical operation. Unfortunately, despite the doctors' efforts, the young man did not survive the night and passed away this afternoon.

The news of his death has thrown the Ischian community into despair, which remembers him as a sunny and hard-working boy. Messages of condolence and closeness to the family, still in shock over the loss of their loved one, are multiplying on social networks.

The police are working to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the accident and ascertain any responsibilities. In the meantime, the judiciary has opened an investigation.
