The autonomous union for health emergencies and urgency (Saues) has organised a series of public initiatives to raise awareness among regional and local health institutions regarding the failure to classify contracted territorial emergency doctors in the service. 118, as requested by them, since they are mainly intended for emergency rooms.
The first demonstration will take place on September 13th in Florence, at the headquarters of the Local Health Authority Toscana Centro, with the participation of Saues managers from various Italian regions.

"There is no law imposing specific restrictions," says the national president of SAUES, Paolo Ficco. "However, most local health authorities nationwide, particularly in Campania, Puglia, Tuscany, and Umbria, tend to hold competitive examinations for the hiring of doctors exclusively for emergency rooms. However, these facilities could be more easily decongested with an efficient 118 service, especially with the constant presence of doctors on ambulances, which could prevent inappropriate admissions to emergency rooms by assessing the severity of cases directly at home."
"Not allowing contracted doctors to be exclusively classified as 118," Ficco concludes, "means defeating their purpose, causing a return to the exodus of doctors, inflicting serious damage on the healthcare system and, above all, on citizens."
