Naples bids farewell to one of its most illustrious sons, Sante Marsili, a legend of world water polo and the pride of Naples. Councilor for Sport, Emanuela Ferrante, expressed the city administration's deepest condolences for the passing of one of the greatest water polo players of all time. Marsili, a true Neapolitan, was world champion in West Berlin in 1978 and won the silver medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics with the Settebello, the Italian national water polo team.
"A brilliant career, a great champion leaves us," said Councilor Ferrante. "We will honor his name and his extraordinary talent, striving to ensure that Naples continues to cultivate new champions like him. His life, dedicated to sport in our city's waters, his World Cup triumph with the Settebello, the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia , and his passion for young people will forever be an example."
Marsili was not only an exceptional athlete, but also a man who left an indelible mark on the heart of Naples. His passion for sport and his love for young people made him a leading figure in his hometown, to which he remained deeply attached. "A champion of life we will never forget," Ferrante concluded, expressing his condolences to Marsili's family in this time of grief.
