In Naples, the treasure hunt of the Nutella vegan ended with a bitter pill for flavor smugglers. In a side street off Piazza Dante, hidden among the alleys of the historic center, a grocery store had become the secret headquarters of an illegal confectionery operation.
About 300 jars of Ferrero's new spreadable cream, destined for French tables, had been diverted to the Neapolitan black market. The NAS Carabinieri, with their proverbial sweetness, thwarted the robbery, seizing the stolen jars.
Imagine the scene: shelves stocked with vegan Nutella, sold at half price, ready to satisfy the sweet tooth of even the most impatient Neapolitans.

But why steal vegan Nutella? Simple: to get ahead of the curve and capitalize on the hype surrounding the official launch.
A gamble that, however, backfired. The smugglers, in fact, had not reckoned with the watchful eye of law enforcement and the desire for justice from honest consumers.
