The work, which began in June, involved 120 square meters, focusing on the area dedicated to green codes and the trauma clinic. Despite the inconvenience caused by the reduction in space, the staff ensured assistance to approximately 200 patients per day during the summer.

The new area, equipped with military tablets for more efficient data management, is able to treat up to 9 patients at the same time. This model will speed up procedures and improve the quality of information.

D'Amore thanked the staff for their commitment and the patients for their patience, stressing the importance of each patient and the need for a thorough analysis of each case.

The final stages of renovation are underway, which will involve the areas dedicated to orange and blue codes. Once the work is completed, the Emergency Department will be completely renovated.

"We are working to recruit new staff and improve processes, in order to speed up response times even in those cases where the clinical picture appears extremely complex. Each patient has their own story and each case deserves the right in-depth analysis by our teams". Thus, in a note, Antonio d'Amore, General Manager.

The interventions involved 120 square meters of the entire structure and focused on the area designated for patients classified as green codes (minor emergencies, with patients in stable health conditions) and the clinic dedicated to the treatment of trauma. A process of requalification of the spaces, explains the note, "which involved the temporary reduction of the environments without however affecting the continuity of care".

The area is equipped to treat up to nine patients at the same time and has been structured to allow nurses to electronically record the patient's health status data, using a special military-derived tablet. In this way, doctors from their stations will be able to cross-reference in real time the information entered by the nurses with the clinical and radiographic examination reports that can be consulted on the PC.

This work model will allow us to speed up activities and better manage information. This area of the Emergency Department, the note continues, is “particularly important, considering that in the month of August alone, approximately 3.000 patients were treated as Green Codes, almost 50% of total accesses.

The Emergency Department team of the Cardarelli, in fact, despite the temporary narrowness of the spaces due to the work in progress, during the summer period it managed to assist an average of 200 people per day. At the same time as the opening of the newly renovated area, preparations are being made to start work in the Emergency Room area dedicated to orange and blue codes.

This is the last tranche of work that will lead to a completely renovated emergency department. Again, the work will lead to a temporary reduction in the spaces dedicated to assistance”.
