“Operazione San Gennaro”: the project conceived by photojournalist Stefano Renna and curated by him in collaboration with the cultural association Kaos 48 recalls the famous film by Dino Risi with Totò and Nino Manfredi. It includes three “miracles” dedicated to the patron saint of Naples with workshops and a photographic exhibition.
The project – which will start on September 19, the day in which the cult of San Gennaro is celebrated – aims to allow participants to test their skills in the field guided by expert photographers.
The first event (which will take place, like the others, at AreaLab35, in via Giovanni Porzio, 4 in the Centro direzionale) will be from 18 to 22 September with San Gennaro “Pensaci su”, dedicated to the second miracle – the one long-awaited by Neapolitans – with the miracle of the liquefaction of the blood (on the 19th) kept in the vial that is shown to the faithful three times a year.
From December 13th to 17th it will be the turn of San Gennaro “Aiutaci tu”, which will instead concern the third miracle, which falls every year on December 16th (to remember when the martyr’s blood liquefied and the city was saved from the eruption of Vesuvius in 1631).
Third and final stage, from 2nd to 6th May, with “Blood on display”, an exhibition that refers to the miracle of the first Sunday in May, which this year will be the 4th, with the historic procession of the statues of the patron saints.
The workshops (which will last two days of theory and one of practice, in addition to two days of free meetings) are intended for semi-professional photographers, professionals or simply curious people with a basic preparation in the shooting phase.
At the end, a qualified jury of journalists, technicians and photography and art professionals will select the most deserving works, which will then be exhibited at the cultural center and laboratory AreaLab35 and Kaos 48 for the creation of an exhibition-event, which will be the subject of a public event to complete the activities.
"Naples is a city full of reference figures who "protect" it - explain Fabrizio Scomparin and Stefano Nasti, founders of Kaos 48 - Among these, San Gennaro is undoubtedly the most important. The patron saint of Neapolitans is at the center of three annual miracles, events that arouse joy or concern depending on their outcome.
For this reason we decided to immediately embrace the project when Stefano Renna proposed it to us. Kaos 48 wants to celebrate this phenomenon by exploring it not only from a religious point of view, but also from a social and artistic one.
The goal is to continue to intertwine the fragments of the city, connecting via Duomo with its imposing cathedral to the Centro direzionale, the headquarters of our association. A path that reflects our commitment to "urban regeneration", uniting tradition and modernity to create an increasingly lively and inclusive Naples".
