A worrying episode occurred in via Benedetto Croce in Naples, where a piece of balcony broke off from Palazzo Filomarino, in the heart of the historic center, grazing a passerby.
Independent regional councilor Marì Muscarà raised the alarm: “We were lucky this time, but we cannot rely on luck. The safety of citizens must be guaranteed.”
The timely intervention of the Fire Brigade avoided the worst, but the accident underlines the urgency of a routine maintenance plan for the Historic Center.
“We have long been calling for interventions on buildings like Palazzo Filomarino, a cultural heritage in danger. We cannot continue to ignore these risks, as also rightly denounced by Councilor Di Stasio, the only audible voice in an otherwise silent municipality.
Let us not forget the tragedy of the young man who lost his life in a collapsing building. The city is crumbling before our eyes.”
The councilor concludes with a heartfelt appeal: “The Historic Center cannot be abandoned to neglect. An immediate commitment from the institutions is needed to prevent further tragedies.”
