Pompeii is preparing to launch its challenge to become the Capital of Culture 2027, thanks to the support of eighty mayors from Campania who have joined the candidacy of the city famous for its archaeological excavations and the Sanctuary. On September 5, at the Town Hall, the presentation of the projects was held with the participation of the mayors and representatives of the local administrations. Among those present was also the director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, Gabriel Zuchtriegel.
Deputy Mayor and Councilor for UNESCO, Andreina Esposito, explained the ambitious vision behind the candidacy: Pompeii unites the modern city, the excavations, and the Sanctuary in a synergistic project that aims to enhance our cultural and artistic heritage. It's a challenging undertaking, but we believe this union can ensure its success.
Among the proposals presented in the dossier is the "Lights and Holiness" project, which envisions special lighting that will extend from the Sanctuary to the outskirts, symbolically breaking down boundaries and involving the entire city. Esposito also announced his intention to bring Pompei works by great masters of art, including Caravaggio, Titian, and even the Impressionists, to make the city even more welcoming, inclusive, and sustainable for visitors.
