The main door of Palazzo San Giacomo, the seat of the municipal administration of Naples, has been restored and was unveiled to the city today in a ceremony attended by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and representatives of the Friends of Naples association, which promoted the project. The restoration, made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Naples and the patrons of the association, is part of a broader project to enhance the square and the city's historical and artistic heritage.

The work was carried out under the high supervision of the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Naples. Among the main interventions, work was done to restore the original color of the door, enhance the decorative metal spokes and consolidate the most deteriorated wooden parts. The result is a door that returns to being a symbol of elegance and functionality for the city.

This restoration is in addition to a series of initiatives promoted in recent years by Friends of Naples, including the recovery of the door of the Diomede Carafa palace and the fresco by Mattia Preti at Porta San Gennaro. The association's goal is to preserve and enhance the historic doors of Naples, considered distinctive elements and witnesses of the city's past.

Palazzo San Giacomo, designed by architect Stefano Gasse, is an important example of neoclassical architecture. Built between 1819 and 1825 on the initiative of Ferdinand I of Bourbon, it was designed to house the ministries of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. The restored door, located in the center of the facade, represents the main entrance to the palace and, with its decorations, embodies the neoclassical style that characterizes the building.

The restoration required four months of work and an investment of approximately 25.000 euros, collected through donations and fundraising activities. This intervention marks a further step in the protection of the artistic heritage of Naples, continuing the commitment of Friends of Naples to return its historical treasures to the city.
