La Ginestra Now in its 17th edition, the La Ginestra Prize is one of the most prestigious literary awards in Italy and Europe, celebrating the figure of Giacomo Leopardi and the places in Campania linked to the poet. After two editions held in the Villa Campolieto in Ercolano, the Prize returns to its natural home, Villa delle Ginestre. The organizers emphasize how the beauty of the place, suspended between Vesuvius and the Gulf of Naples, gives a unique emotion to the ceremony.
Reason for the Award to Antonella Anedda
The 2023 La Ginestra Prize was awarded to Antonella Anedda for her contribution to contemporary Italian poetry. Her verses and prose capture the essence of the modern soul, giving it voice and memory through words full of expression. Her poetry stands out for its ability to preserve the memory of the lost and those who live on the margins of society, taking on the echo of authors such as Osip Mandel'štam, Wisława Szymborska, Philippe Jaccottet, and Elizabeth Bishop.
The plot with Giacomo Leopardi
Giacomo Leopardi occupies a central role in Anedda's work. Her 2022 book “Darwin's Plants and Leopardi's Topi” highlights the connection with the poet from Recanati. Anedda explores themes such as the rejection of human arrogance and the ability to transform error into an opportunity for growth, parallels also drawn with Leopardi. The poet visited Villa delle Ginestre, making this place a symbol of her relationship with the poet and the times we live in. The awarding of the La Ginestra Prize to Antonella Anedda represents a significant recognition in the Italian cultural panorama, celebrating her ability to make the voices of the past resonate in the present, inspired by the immortal figure of Giacomo Leopardi.
