Today, at the Criminal Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, the abbreviated trial began against Tiberio Francesco La Torre, a well-known criminal with numerous criminal records, accused of extortion aggravated by the Camorra method.
According to a press release, among the victims designated by La Torre are local entrepreneurs and regional councilor Giovanni Zannini, the latter of whom was threatened with death and forced to pay a “pizzo” of 50.000 euros.
Zannini, together with entrepreneurs Alfredo and Pasquale Campoli and the municipality of Mondragone, has joined the civil action. The next hearing is scheduled for November 15, with Zannini expected to be a witness.

The investigation, launched after a complaint by Zannini, revealed that La Torre, together with an accomplice who has not yet been identified, attempted to extort 50.000 euros from the councilor under the false accusation of compensation owed.
Torre had repeatedly tried to meet Zannini at his home, without success. The investigating judge highlighted two crucial aspects: the presence of a second individual involved and the death threats explicitly addressed to the Campolis to obtain payment by the evening of May 8.
If it had not been for Zannini's prompt denunciation and the intervention of the Carabinieri, La Torre could have carried out his threat of murder. A second charge concerns an attempted extortion against Alfredo Campoli, from whom La Torre demanded 20.000 euros, with the meeting set in a chapel in the cemetery of Mondragone.
