Procida. In a joint operation that kept rescuers on tenterhooks, an 11-year-old Labrador, Pedro, was rescued after falling from a towering cliff.
The accident occurred this afternoon when, having left his home, the faithful four-legged friend slipped down the rocky slope, ending up trapped in the thick vegetation.
Alerted by the dog's desperate howls, the owners immediately raised the alarm, requesting the intervention of the fire brigade and Civil Protection.
The rescue teams, having arrived on the scene, abseiled down the steep slope to reach the animal, whose conditions appeared serious due to the injuries sustained and the stress caused by the fall.
After hours of delicate operations, Pedro was finally freed from his precarious situation. However, his adventure was far from over.
In an instinctive gesture, the Labrador leaped into the waters below, forcing the intervention of the Coast Guard. A naval unit immediately arrived to the rescue, managing to recover the dog and bring him safely to dry land.
Entrusted to the care of Civil Protection volunteers, Pedro underwent an initial veterinary examination that fortunately ruled out serious trauma. Exhausted but visibly relieved, the faithful friend was then reunited with his heartbroken owners, who held him in a long embrace.
