From 27 to 29 September, the island of Procida will be the stage for one of the most anticipated nautical events of the season, the Procida Sailing Cup 2024, known as the “Barcolana” of Arturo Island. The Marina di Procida will be transformed into a lively Regatta Village, ready to welcome sailing and sea enthusiasts, offering a mix of sporting competition, seafaring culture and solidarity, all immersed in the natural wonders of the island.
The event is part of the prestigious circuit VELA Cup, which every year involves hundreds of boats of all sizes and types. The Procida stage is the penultimate of the season, after those of Chiavari, Brindisi and the Etruscan Coast, before the closing in Capo d'Orlando, in Sicily, on 7 and 8 October. The VELA Cup formula It is simple and open to all: boats of any length, without age limits or particular technical formalities, with rankings drawn up based on the length of the hulls.
A rich and evocative program
Il Regatta Village, located on the eastern pier, will offer a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Naples, with Vesuvius on the horizon and the colorful houses of Marina Grande as a backdrop. Not just sailing: the public will be able to explore the culture of the sea through exhibitions, book presentations, stands of shipyards and displays of both sailing and motor boats.
The event will officially start on Friday 27th September, with the opening of the Regatta Village at 15pm and a welcome cocktail for owners and crews, which will kick off a weekend dedicated to sport and conviviality. Saturday 00th September will be the key day with the Regatta, which will see the boats tackle a fascinating route around the island, starting from the port of Procida, to touch iconic places such as Terra Murata, Marina Corricella and Vivara.
An event in the name of solidarity
La Procida Sailing Cup 2024 It will not only be sport, but also an opportunity to do good. Thanks to an initiative by Blue Dream Charter, even those who do not own a boat will be able to participate in the solidarity regatta to support humanitarian projects in Uganda, financing the construction of water wells in collaboration with the NGO Africa Mission – Cooperazione e Sviluppo. A unique opportunity to transform the passion for sailing into a concrete gesture of solidarity.
The Gulf of Naples will also host for the first time a gathering of vintage and classic motor boats, organized in collaboration with theASDEC (Associazione Scafi D'Epoca e Classici). Among the protagonists of the gathering, iconic boats such as Baglietto and Riva will be exhibited along the dock, allowing nautical enthusiasts to admire true works of art of the sea.
There will be no shortage of the excellences of the Campania nautical tradition, such as theAncient Wood Shipyard Aprea, which has been synonymous with marine craftsmanship for over two centuries. During the event, it will be possible to book a test of the G-10, the Aprea hybrid gozzo, a perfect example of innovation and respect for tradition.
Sunday between sailing and religious celebrations
The last day of the event, Sunday 29th September, will be dedicated both to the sporting conclusion of the regatta, with the awards ceremony scheduled for 18:00, and to the religious celebrations in honour of San Micheal, patron saint of Procida. The statue of the saint will be carried in procession through the streets of the island, concluding the weekend with a solemn blessing from the Cannoni viewpoint.
